2009 Fellowship X Winter Retreat
What’s changed? What’s still the same?
First, the Winter Retreat is now an FX event, as opposed to Critical Mass. It will be a smaller event; we expect to have 3 houses. The Young Adults will not be participating (their choice.) We still will welcome others outside FX who are like-minded and would like to come, but we are not actively recruiting outside FX.
We will still be at Deep Creek, with the same activities, like skiing, tubing, games, etc. available as in the past. We will also still have some choice in regards to dinners, but much smaller due to the reduced size of the event. We will also set the basic rules for each house in advance just like last year.
In regards to meals, we will try a few new things, while maintaining some old ideas as well. We will be collecting money for food to allow more flexibility in meal assignments (and also the ability to more evenly distribute responsibilities,) as well as more evenly spreading the cost. One house will offer breakfast for all who are interested, lunch items will be similar or the same in each house to allow anyone to eat at any house. Those who choose to prepare a dinner (and those who agree to purchase food for other meals), will be given an allotment to purchase food for their meal. We will also still have a selection between 2 dinners each night, though the selection may or may not be quite as extravagant as in the past.
Why should I come?
If you have been on past retreats, you already know that our retreats are one of the best community building activities that we have. If you haven’t been before, this is a great way to make deeper connections with others in our group. Either way, we expect this year’s Winter Retreat to be a relaxing escape from everyday life.
How much does it cost?
This year’s cost is $180 per person, which includes food and house supplies. The only additional costs would be for any activities that you choose to do such as skiing, tubing, etc, though many find that there is plenty to do without leaving our houses and spending any additional money. We are also offering private rooms for $325 as well, for those who enjoy the community but also enjoy having their private escape as well.
Dogs & Children?
Four spaces are also available for dogs. A $50 fee per dog is required. Additionally, we have one house designated as child friendly. There is no additional cost for infants and toddlers that will share their parent’s room. Children who require their own sleeping space will be charged accordingly based on space used and food requirements. Our Child Coordinator can help provide more details about the exact costs once additional information is provided.
House Descriptions?
We will have three houses with some differences in the basic rules of each house. Participants are welcome in all houses as if they were their own during the retreat, but are expected to adhere to the basic rules of the house.
Nite-Owl: This is the place to stay-up late and sleep-in until noon. There may very well be quite a bit of noise well into the night with some watching movies or playing games until sunrise. No dogs are allowed in this house.
Games/Social: There may be some who choose to stay-up well into the night playing games, watching movies or socializing after midnight, but at a volume level that is also respectful to those who choose to turn-in. Dogs are allowed in this house.
Quiet Nights: This house will be quiet after 9 PM, as we expect those who want to stay up later to enjoy the activities in the other houses after 9 PM. Dogs are allowed in this house and children may be staying here with their parents as well. This is also the place to come for breakfast anytime from 8-10 AM.
