Holiday Party

Our annual semi-formal Holiday Party is another big event. Dress is either semi-formal / Sunday-best or you can come as a holiday character (Santa Claus or an elf). To date, only one person has been known to do the latter. :)

The party always includes a "White Elephant" Gift Exchange. You are encouraged to bring a gift in the "white elephant" variety—something no one would want or a just plain bad gift. There appears to be some informal competition to see who can bring the worst possible gift. Some of the "quality" past gifts have included an obsolete bibliography, a black licorice rat that was known to have attended several of the parties over the years (inedible), and a Homer Simpson chia pet. Occasionally someone brings a good gift anyway, and much trading/chaos occurs. The rules to the exchange are sometimes confusing. Perhaps we'll post the rules this year. Then again, the confusion is part of the fun.
